Wells is England’s smallest Cathedral City, and Brit Flick ‘Hot Fuzz’s filming location, Wells is situated at the foot of the Mendip Hills and is approx. 7 miles from Street.
We’re approx. 1.5 miles away from this ancient pilgrimage town, with its spectacular Abbey Ruins, eclectic vibe and alternative lifestyle! It’s also the home of the famous Tor Hill, which is worth a climb for the amazing views it affords over the Somerset Levels and Mendip Hills.
Street is a good sized village centrally located in the heart of Somerset. It pushes well above its weight in regard to its facilities. It is the home of international shoe brand ‘Clarks’ and of one of the country’s premier private schools, ‘Millfield’.
The village boasts strong state schools and a well regarded college, a popular theatre and leisure facilities including both indoor and outdoor swimming pools. The village’s motif and claim to fame is the famous fossils of the Ichthyosaurus, now seen on display in the Natural History Museum in London.
Clarks Village was one of the UK’s first purpose built shopping outlet centres, created in 1992, and now is considered one of the most successful in the country boasting 80 stores with high street names. Of course Street has its own high street too, so don’t forget to pop along and support the local shops!
The M5 and A303 are close by with great access to greater shopping opportunities in Taunton, Exeter, Bath and Bristol. Airports are located at Bristol and Exeter, and the local rail connection is at Castle Cary with a main line connection to and from London Paddington.
The surrounding area boasts stunning countryside with the Mendip Hills considered an area of outstanding natural beauty; Cheddar Gorge; and the stunning bird life on offer on the Somerset Levels. Great for walking and even more popular for cyclists with some great cycle routes too.
